To Protest or Not to Protest?
To Protest or Not to Protest?
Protests are a freedom of expression. They allow the citizens of a country to speak of their frustrations. These may be politically motivated, economically motivated, or corruption motivated. The general expectation is that the grievances will be heard and a long-lasting response issued. This ideal is as rare as a calm day in the eye of a storm.
Bluntly confronting a regime can lead to violent responses. These are predominant in Africa, South America, the Middle East, and India.

If you were to flip the coin and focus on protests with non-violent government responses, Europe’s unblemished baby face would transform into a full-blown pimple-faced teenager.

Is there a role governments need to play in bringing change? Yes. Fostering a peaceful environment for protestors is crucial. This way, the citizens feel seen and their grievances heard. The storm recedes and calm is restored.
In conclusion, protests are a communication tool for citizens. They should be encouraged to foster government accountability. As you protest, do it with caution. Identify your reason for protesting. Think independently. Avoid being swayed. Good luck.
